We're talking about Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT), which affects more than a half million people a year in the United States.
Now, new research by a team of international scientists, including a leading researcher from the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center, shows a new drug can make treatment more convenient, but just as effective.
The study results appear in the September 13th issue of the New England Journal of Medicine.
The study also evaluated the effectiveness of the drug for blood clots in the lungs, but the results were not as effective. OU researchers say that points to the need for still more research in that area.
